Children's Services
Children's Services Programs provide supports and services to children and youth, from birth to 18 years of age, and their families. Being community and family focused, our services are designed to work with the uniqueness of each child and with each family dynamic. This is done through accompanying families in long-term relationships, which often include significant life changes.
Children's Services has provided services to Kenora since 1961 and represents the beginning of the KACL; presently, services are contained in three main programs, Infant Development, the Child and Youth Program, and Kids' Zone. Infant Development is involved with families with children ranging in age, from birth to six years old, that have concerns about their child's development. The Child and Youth Program (CYP) works with children and youth, aged 6 to 18, and family, where the child or youth has been diagnosed with an intellectual disability. Kids' Zone provides child care and facilitates opportunities for early learning. Both Kids' Zone locations are licensed through the Ministry of Education as certified childcare spaces and provide services to children ranging from newborn to 10 years of age. And each Kids' Zone location is specialized in designate age groups.
Children's Services strives to enhance its services for the development of children through support to families; we believe that family and community relationships are crucial for each child to fulfil his or her potential. Part of this enhancement strategy involves our deliberate efforts to follow a family centered approach. Where families with the support of their KACL consultant determine their goals for their child and family.
